Why Poetry?

In the words of Audre Lorde: "I have come to believe over and over again, that what is most important to me must be spoken, made verbal and shared, even at the risk of having it bruised or misunderstood. When I dare to be powerful, to use my strength in the service of my vision, then it becomes less and less important whether I am afraid." I play the game to be entertained, I call myself poet to be healed and enlivened, viscerally, tangibly, transcending my own humanity and sonorously speaking aloud what others only dream (or so i am told by C. G. Jung). I put my arm around Neruda as an undergrad and called him brother as together we nursed our own humanity. Those old poems make up the bulk of my collected works, but i think the new ones are more fun to read.

"The Seventh Sense: Women who build nations, learn to love  men who build nations,
learn to love children building sand castles by the rising sea." ~ Audre Lorde
